Wooden Timber Frame Pegs
Timber frame pegs are an essential component in timber frame and mortise and tenon construction. These pegs are made of air-dried hardwood with a linear and clear grain. The pegs are beveled on each end. A thin wax finish makes it easier to hammer the hardwood pegs into joints.
While nails will hold your typical house construction together, timber pegs are needed for timber frame and mortise and tenon construction. Traditional wooden boat builders also use them in a variety of applications. Made in the USA, our timber pegs measure 3/4″ diameter x 13″ long and are made of air-dried hardwood with a linear and clear grain to reduce the likelihood of breakage. Timber frame pegs should always be stored in a cool dry place to reduce shrinking and swelling. Even though the pegs are coated with wax, they can still expand/contract a bit with the humidity over time. As drill bits can vary in size as well, we suggest having a few different brands of drill bits in your arsenal and drill test holes before using the pegs so you can match the bit to the pegs on hand.
